Apicoectomy is the most common endodontic microsurgical technique used to preserve the natural tooth. Apicoectomy, or root-end resection, can be used to locate missed canals or small fractures that may have been previously undetected during initial treatment. Apicoectomy involves carefully resecting the gum tissue to expose the root allowing for endodontic therapy to be performed, the root end is then sealed and a few sutures are placed in the gum. Patients can typically resume normal activities post-treatment and expect discomfort to be generally mild. Dr. Edlund has extensive experience performing successful apicoectomies.
